May 4, 2008 marks the 110-year anniversary of Peking University. To celebrate the birthday of this prestigious Chinese university and further promote the cultural exchange between U.S. and China, PUAA-DC proudly announces the Year 2008 scholarships for Young American Scholars. These scholarships are designated to support young American students with Chinese or other ethnic backgrounds to explore the opportunities of short-term study in China and learn the rich Chinese culture. The total amount of scholarships in this year is $1,000. They will be awarded to two American students who are currently studying in Colleges or High Schools in the D.C. metro area and interested in the Chinese culture. PUAA-DC wishes that the scholarships will provide students with encouragement and travel assistances.
Qualified students are those who are entering 11th grade or higher in Fall 2008, or already in college. To apply for the scholarships, student candidates must submit the following documents and materials:
1) Name, gender, age, school, family contact information (telephone, fax, email).
2) An essay of self-introduction and the plan of your trip
3) Copies of transcripts from your school
4) Invitation from Chinese schools, camps or educational programs organizers
5) Two letters of recommendation

PUAA-DC will announce the results of applications by the middle of May. The award ceremony will be held soon afterwards.
