Online meeting of 16th Council Re-election and China-US Relations Seminar

On September 26, 2020, at 8 pm Eastern Time, the Greater Washington and Peking University Alumni Association held the 16th Alumni Association Council Re-election Ceremony and Seminar on Sino-US Relations in the cloud. More than 60 alumni witnessed the joint event. Was successfully held.

The re-election ceremony kicked off by the honorary chairman of Wang Qiyun. Mrs. Wang is one of the initiators of the alumni association in the region, and the third president (1995-1996). She still actively participates in and organizes activities of the alumni association. Teacher Wang introduced the history and evolution of the Washington DC Alumni Association since its establishment in 1993, adding historical thickness to the re-election ceremony. Then, Ms. Chen Jingfei, the 15th President, introduced the main work and achievements of the Alumni Association in the past two years. Among them, President Chen both reviewed traditional annual events-including the Spring Festival Gala, the plum, bamboo and pine series of sports competitions, the autumn welcome picnic, Shuimu Yanyuan Salon, and voluntary blood donation activities. She also specifically mentioned that Washington alumni gave Wuhan New Crown at the beginning of the year. Fundraising for the epidemic. According to incomplete statistics, nearly 236 people donated more than 50,000 US dollars through the Washington Alumni Association. Only non-contact infrared thermometers and 499 blood oximeters support the Wuhan community, which is most in need of community investigation. Afterwards, the new 16th President Dr. Wei Ding thanked the previous presidents for their hard work and unremitting accumulation, as well as the silent dedication of countless alumni volunteers in various activities, and announced the list and profile of the new nine council members. The second part of the lecture invited Dr. Huang Zhihuan, senior policy researcher, epidemiologist, and director of Tang's China Policy Research at RAND Corporation. Dr. Huang has focused on global health governance for the past two decades, studying the health behaviors of migrants and marginalized groups, and multidimensional social determinants. In the past year, Dr. Huang was invited to participate in four US House of Representatives hearings, and participated in a number of new coronavirus epidemic prediction model projects and research on the One Belt One Road project. At the same time, she also served as a special project reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She also provided expert consultation for the World Bank, the United Nations AIDS Development Agency, Save the Children and other organizations. Starting from the modern history of Sino-US relations, Dr. Huang analyzed the unique patterns of Sino-US relations in each historical stage, which was linked to the current special geopolitical situation, and horizontally compared the power balance and policies of several major aspects of China and the United States. Focus. Although Professor Huang’s lectures only represent individuals and not institutions, the alumni have expressed that they have benefited a lot and actively interacted in the Q&A session, thanking Professor Huang for his sincere sharing and substantial contributions to Sino-US relations.

Finally, all the alumni took a group photo in the cloud, and the event ended warmly in the reluctant exchange of holiday wishes. The council especially welcomes and encourages the joining of young alumni after the 2000s, as a new force and master of new technology, to make suggestions and increase intelligence for the new model of the alumni association during the New Normal period.
