2006 Annual Picnic

Peking University Alumni Association for the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan Area (PUAA-DC) held its Year 2006 Annual Picnic on June 10 in the Cabin John Park in Maryland. Under the sunny sky, close to 100 alumni, family members, friends, and guests of Peking University and Former Beijing Medical College gathered for the celebration of summer with barbecue, award ceremony, and board election. Ms. Tina Liu from Maryland and Mr. James Zhang from Virginia won the 2006 PUAA-DC “American Young Scholar” Scholarships to support their summer long study of Chinese language and culture in Peking University and other cities in China. The scholarships are kindly sponsored by two distinguished alumni, Dr. Qiming Wei, President of American Nanomedicine Academy (AANM), and Dr. Sujuan Ba, Chief Science Officer of National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR). Ms. Hongxia Liu concluded her 2004-2006 PUAA-DC Presidency by giving a brief report on the activities held in the past two years, a financial summary and a membership report. The new board of PUAA-DC was elected and approved by general members with Ms. Mei Lu as President, and other eight members on the board. The new board presented Ms. Hongxia Liu an outstanding service award to appreciate her excellent services to the alumni association, Peking University, and the community. Chinese Embassy delegate led by Mr. Xuejun Qiu joined the picnic and applauded the outstanding contribution from PUAA-DC to the Chinese and American communities. Maryland Delegates Susan Lee and Joan Stern also attended the picnic and gave remarks.
